ABOUT GET FIT TOPEKA STYLE:
In March 2012, a Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index listed Topeka as number 8 in their top 10 most obese metro areas. In April 2012, the Kansas Health Institute released health rankings for all the counties in the state. Shawnee County ranked 65 out of 100 with 33% of its residents obese. Jayhawk Pharmacy & Patient Supply launched GET FIT TOPEKA STYLE in March 2012 in an effort to raise awareness of these statistics and to work to reverse them.
Get Fit Topeka Style taps into the resources that already exist in Topeka and Shawnee County - gym facilities, personal trainers, doctors, nurses, dieticians, chefs, grocery stores, psychologists, and more - to create a 6-month competition as a means to encourage 20 individuals, and the entire community, to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
2012 Contestants Are:
Leyna Barnes; Derrick Baxter; Hope Baxter; Brian Calhoon; Rhonda Gales; Linda Henson; Shelly Lowery; Stephanie Lynn; Raylene Quaney; Jacqueline Rogers; Tim Rogers; Suzette Smith; Angela Shelton; Kelli Stegeman; Lloyd Swartz; Jennifer Tauer; Samantha Teed; Kari Thetford; Wendy Willoughby; and Nathan Wood.
